The German website bahn.de thought that we could make a 30 minute connection window between the train from Thessaloniki to Belgrade and the train from Belgrade to Budapest. The train conductor laughed for about an hour when we asked if we were going to make the connection.

So we had a day in Belgrade. A really, really hot day. The good news is that Serbians turned out to be really friendly people. Maybe they're just crazy at night? Maybe their government is off its rocker. But the people were very nice and excited to talk to Americans, despite what we'd been warned about how they didn't really appreciate the good old USA what with being bombed for a few weeks during the NATO interventions in Kosovo.

Caught the train to Budapest around 9pm.
